Help!

From tv ideas

This is what the main wall of my living room currently looks like and I hate it! I've been wanting to make these bookshelves:

from ana-white.com for ages now (one for the kids room and one as a media console). I'd move the shelf up for the one in the living room so that there is a smaller space for the blu-ray player and junk and a bigger space at the bottom for some big storage baskets.
What I really need help on is how do I disguise the ugly outlet cover in the middle of the wall. Even if we wall mount the TV it will show up over the top. Any ideas?
I was picturing in my head mounting the tv on the wall and making a sort of frame thats about 6 inches wider on all sides than the tv and covering it with a fun fabric to sort of frame the tv and hide the outlet and cords. The closest picture I could find to what I'm thinking of is this:

Blake thinks it would look weird though :( Any suggestions would be super helpful!

  1. I like the idea but I think this pattern is too busy around the tv. It distracts from the screen.

  2. I agree it's a little busy. I would mount the tv maybe even frame the tv like a picture. Maybe the frame would hide the outlet. I can come look and see if I can think of any other ideas!

  4. Hang something busy on the wall and see if you can stand it. LIke a piece of fabric or something. Then hang something plain and see if you like it better! Then you will know if you even like the idea at all before committing.
I wish I had all the tools I need to build things! I did a table this spring and am itching to build something else!
